I have always been a rule follower. I was the one in school who, when the teacher said “no working on homework during class,” I would obey. Meanwhile, everyone around me would be doing so and I would be perplexed as to why no one would listen. Even at 30 years old I, still, have a hard time jumping the gated fence around the local, public turf to get in a sprint workout. Mindless Eating: It’s Just That SIMPLE!

According to David Rock, author of “Your Brain At Work,” our “conscious thinking activities are all intensive users of the prefrontal cortex of our brain.” Not only small but it has limited energy too; think of it like a battery. The more and more we use it, the quicker it loses power. As the “battery” depletes, the quality of our thinking, decision making, and, ultimately, willpower decreases as well. Continue reading
