Derived from the Turkish word “keif,” and translated to mean “feeling good,” KEFIR has been getting lots of recent attention. According to Chris Kesser of “Let’s Take Back Your Health,” he states “the various types of beneficial microbiota contained in kefir make it one of the most potent probiotic foods available.” Now, that is a win! Before being recommended by an integrative nutritionist to try this “milk smoothie,” I was kind of in the dark about what the heck Kefir was even all about (the name, alone, was a bit of a turn off). Oh, Sweet Potato of Mine…

What is starchy, sweet, and also part of the vegetable family? Da’ sweet potato, of course!

As the weekly marathon mileage increases, and strength training sessions get more intense, finding alternatives to the usual grains for energy has been a must. This can be especially challenging if you have a gluten allergy and are limited in choices. Although sweet potatoes have always graced our nutrition plan – at some point, at least – it has been an awesome addition to fueling our grueling workouts.

When Life Knocks You Down…DO A BURPEE!

I will admit, as of late, one of my favorite moto’s has been “when you are going through shit, lift HEAVY shit” (thx Jill Coleman)! There is something about a hard-core, “balls to the wall,” metabolic conditioning workout that gets your mindset in check and “lifts” (pun intended) you out of a funk. So, when I came across this fabulous phrase, I told Daria that we had to put together a “Wednesday Workout” that incorporated two of our favorites – BURPEES and TABATAS.
